Then again, if you want to see how they've taken the game's core design and streamlined the experience while making it more accessible, then definitely start with IV first if you start with V, you might find managing the unit stacking in IV's endgame too onerous a task to bother with and you'll give an equally brilliant game a pass which would be a shame. Therefore, if you want to ease your way into Civilization, that might be the way to go. This was a design goal of the Civ 5 Communitas mod.
